About Bon
Hi, I'm Bon — a registered nurse working in neonatal and postnatal care in Melbourne, currently working toward my Graduate Diploma of Midwifery, and studying to become a lactation consultant.
What's the blog?
Basics by Bon started as an idea for a blog and sat mostly untouched for the better part of a year. What's finally getting it off the ground is this: over and over, on shift, I find myself explaining the same "basics" to new parents — things like why babies cluster feed, what's actually normal in the first few weeks, and how to tell the difference between something worth worrying about and something that's just, well, having a newborn.
This is where I write those things down. Not as clinical advice, but as plain-English answers to the questions I get asked the most — the stuff that's obvious once someone explains it, and stressful when no one has.
A quick note: everything here is general information based on my own experience and training, not medical advice specific to you or your baby. If something doesn't feel right, please talk to your midwife, GP, maternal health nurse, or lactation consultant — they know your situation, I don't.
When I'm not writing, I'm usually chasing a running goal, deep in a book, or counting down to my next placement rotation. Thanks for being here.
